Shri Arjun Singh, Minister for Human Resource Development will inaugurate Chindren’s Assembly and Integration Camp (November 14-20, 2007) on Children’s Day. Thereafter he will release the Bal Bhavan publications - “Voice of Youth on Sustainable Development”- a book in Hindi and English reflecting children’s thoughts on Sustainable Development. A poster on the theme of the assembly (Education for Sustainable Development) will also be released. Thereafter a colorful cultural programme will be presented by the participating children comprising of a vocal music , a ballet , classical dances on the theme of the assembly and presentations by International teams.
The theme of this year’s International Children’s Assembly is “Education for Sustainable Development”. This theme has been chosen with a view to sensitize children the significance of Sustainable Development since the world is going deeper into ecological debt and global warming and concrete steps needs to be taken against this biggest threat facing humanity. Apart from Indian Children, Children from Mauritius, Norway, Kyrghyztan and China would also participate in this year’s assembly. Children who have been honoured for their creativity with the Bal Shree Honour from 1995 -2005 and have been invited for a reunion camp would also be participating in the inaugural programme of this year’s assembly.
This being children’s day a special creativity fair will be organized during which children will take part in various activities and fun games. Children would also enjoy Puppet Show, Magic Show, Joy Rides, Games and Jumping Castle.On 14th November , a cultural fiesta will be organised in which children of National Bal Bhavan and children of other friendly countries would make presentations on the theme. The presentation would include fushion dance in Kathak and Bharatnatyam style, classical song and drama.
Throughout the assembly special programmes are being organized for children wherein children would get an opportunity to meet and interact with some of the renowned personalities who have made difference in our lives directly or indirectly. On 15th November the participating children and the Bal Shree Awardees of the Creative Arts stream will make beautiful collage on large boards. On 16th November children would take part in Yoga and Creative Sports Activities. A play ‘Shabri’, directed by Mrs. Sushma Seth an eminent theatre and film personality would be put up at 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Seth would also interact with the children. On 17th November children would make presentations on difference aspects of Sustainable Development viz Biodiversity, energy etc. In the evening valedictory function will be organized for the Bal Shree Awardees. On 18th November children will visit Rural Bal Bhavan, Mandi indulge themselves in varied creative and science related activities. In the evening their would be screening of Ex- US Vice-President Al Gore’s Oscar winning documentary on climate change-“An Inconvenient Truth”. On 19th November there would be programmes to make the birth anniversary of Smt. Indira Gandhi. On the same day there will be a declamation contest in which children participating in the International Children’s Assembly and children of various schools of Delhi will speak on the theme of the assembly i.e. “Education for Sustainable Development”. On the concluding day of the assembly i.e. on 20th November valedictory programme would be organized wherein participants of International Children’s Assembly will be felicitated and mementoes and certificates will be given to the children.
The International Children’s Assembly and Integration Camp is an annual feature of Bal Bhavan in which children from all parts of the country and abroad participate. This camp not only promotes national but international integration, amity, brotherhood and goodwill amongst children of our country and children from our friendly countries who wish to know about the culture of India.
