The World Travel Market in London is one of the largest tourism trade fairs in the world. The 2007 edition of this fair is being held at the Excel convention center from 12th November to 15th November. Over 5500 exhibitors from 202 countries and regions of the world are participating in this fair which will be attended by over 45000 travel trade professionals. Over the past 13 years, the World Travel Market has become an established business platform hosting debates, presentations, seminars, workshops and networking events for development and promotion of responsible tourism.
India is one of the largest participants at WTM with over 750 square meters of space at a prime location. The Indian travel industry under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is well represented. Over 91 travel trade organizations including various state governments/ union territories, hotel chains, tour operators, airlines and specialist companies are participating in the Incredible India pavilion. More than 300 professionals comprising of the crème de la crème of the travel and tourism industry of India are promoting their specific destinations and products. Apart from this around 24 other organizations are exhibiting independently covering an additional area of around 500 sq meter.
The Incredible India pavilion sports a different look this year with the theme being the world heritage site of Ajanta. The traditional wooden pillars give the stand the look and feel of an ancient temple. The huge cloth banners depicting the Ajanta paintings are a definite attraction for the visitors. Coming inside the pavilion the visitors can meet with the travel trade from India at their individual booths and discuss business opportunities.
The Incredible India pavilion was inaugurated by Shri Shilabhadra Banerjee, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Tourism in the presence of Shri Kamalesh Sharma, High Commission of India to the UK with the cutting of the ribbon and lighting the lamp. The tourism ministers of the states of Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, Pondicherry, Mrs Leena Nandan, Joint Secretary (Tourism), Government of India as well as other dignitaries were also present. This was followed by the formal release of the Incredible India fact finder published by Indiatourism London. Traditional Indian sweets and savouries were distributed to all present.
