Want Stress-free disease-free life - Go the Tulsi way
THE LIFESPAN is how long you live and health span how long you live well. It is entirely up to you how do you choose your habits to keep your body fit and free from diseases. But do you think fitness is equated to keeping your skin glow and wrinkle-free artificially and hair, black by dyeing? Medically and clinically the answer is no.
You may certainly look younger if you are a regular visitor to the beauty parlors where body massages and various types of herbal cosmetics are used to give a ‘fresh look’ to your aging body. But it is all ‘superficial’ because in no way such ‘techniques’ can make you young in the real sense, if the nutritional supplements are improper. Your immunity profile gets lower and lower as you grow older and low immunity will only add to your miseries by way of inviting manifold problems including recurrent infections. With the increasing age, it is the stress and the emotions, which affects our state of mind and the body as a whole.
Is there anything that can control the stress or something, which helps enhance the immunity level, prevents the recurrent infection and promotes good health?
Tulsi (sacred Basil) is the mother medicine of nature, which has all these ingredients, experts say with scientifically established evidences world over. Tulsi protects against and reduces stress, enhances stamina and endurance, increases the body’s efficient use of oxygen, boosts the immune system, slows aging, and provides a rich supply of antioxidants and other nutrients’ say experts quoting their work on this sacred plant which has captivated human imagination since before the time of the Rig Veda written around 5000 BC.
The powerful medicinal properties of basil tea have been known for centuries but now have also been given scientific backing, thanks to extensive studies carried out at the erstwhile KG Medical College, Lucknow and also at different places across the world. Dr Narendra Singh and his team of researchers in India and abroad including Dr Yamuna Hoette, a top German Medical scientist, claim to have proved manifold properties of Tulsi, saying the sacred herb besides its anti-aging effect can also respond to peptic ulcers, heart diseases, hypertension, colitis, asthma and even helps AIDS patient give lease of life as it boosts immunity level.
“Instead of normal tea or coffee, take 10-20 basil leaves and make a cup of tea,” advises Dr Singh, a renowned pharmacologist and now the director of International Institute of Herbal Research, at Gomtinagar, Lucknow. Dr Singh who retired as professor pharmacology at KGMC, has been practicing Ayurveda and herbal medicines since 1965 and has treated over 10 lakh patients till date – half of them free of cost.
Elaborating further on the medicinal properties of Tulsi, he says: “Mixed with sugar, it makes an excellent drink. It can also help minimize day-to-day strains and provides disease-free-life’. Modern medicines have drugs like diazepam which may allay anxiety and prevent some stress effects, but the simple basil plant is useful for preventing and curing stress induced diseases produced by physical, chemical or biological stress,” says Singh. High frequency noise, overcrowding atmospheric pollution, food adulteration, increased competition and hostility are some examples of the stress to which modern man is constantly exposed.
Organic India Pvt. Ltd, a Lucknow based company with associate offices in USA and Israel has pioneered the introduction of Tulsi and Tulsi tea and today it has flooded both the Indian and the international market. Tulsi is recognized as the Mother medicine of nature and is known both as ‘the queen of herbs’ and ‘the incomparable one’. Thousands of Ayurvedic texts quote the vast array of healing properties and benefits of Tulsi, which is grown through out India as a sacred herb.
Organic India’s Tulsi Tea collection consists of six blends of Tulsi teas. Each blend has its own distinct, characteristic taste that contributes to the delicious flavor and aroma in every cup of tea
Thirty seven varieties of basil lear exist, but the most common Ocimum Sanctum Linn of the family Labiate, can be grown in your own garden. Eugenol – an essential oil found in basil – contains both anti-bacterial and anti-virus qualities, the experts say adding experiments on humans show that extract from basil leaf prevent virtually every type of stress-related disease.
Beauty parlours though have no definite answers to give inner strength to an aging person but they claim to have ‘herbal formulations’ of branded companies which can hamper the aging process by smoothening the fine lines and dark circles around the eyes, make your skin supple and radiant to make you look young and fresh. Leading beauty parlors use facial packs ranging from Rs 600 to Rs 12,000, which tone the skin fibers. The anti-aging products applied at most of beauty clinics promise you to look younger after eight weeks of treatment. But this is just superficial aspect of it.
Dr Singh reasons that such cosmetic treatment may give you a look young and beautiful person but it would never give you inner strength to fight against the recurrent infections and boost your immunity level. Tulsi on the other hand offers significant benefits for people of all ages and successfully meet the special challenges which arise with aging, asserts Singh quoting his exhaustive research.
Aging is primarily a genetically determined process, at the core of which is a slow diminution in the vitality of three basic biological systems characterized by reduced protein synthesis, and RNA and DNA deterioration; Reduced cell-mediated immunity and reduced levels of hormones neurotransmitters and enzymes.
Old age commonly manifests poor health in the form of Low energy and easy fatigability, insomnia, loss of muscle strength and co-ordination, reduced digestive efficiency, increased susceptibility to infection, a variety of mental disturbances, and stress diseases.
Many older people suffer from a variety of age and stress-related physical disorders and typically take a range of allopathic drugs, which often provide momentary relief, but such drugs commonly bring with them serious and well-acknowledged array of unpleasant and frequently dangerous side effects, say experts.
Tulsi on the other hand helps reduce the risks and problems associated with allopathic drugs and on the contrary give a salutary effect on the disease process and improve the body’s defense system.
Tulsi taken in tea form is a simple pleasure that is conducive to socialising, which may be beneficial to the elderly. And enjoying a pleasant cup of tea has positive connotations compared to consumption of capsules, and is less likely to be seen simply as taking medicine or pills for illness.
