Social entrepreneurship has emerged as a dynamic new force of innovation and effectiveness in channeling energy and resources to address the compelling human needs that exist. As the traditional lines blur between nonprofit enterprises and business, it is critical that those who are interested to develop their career in social sector understand the opportunities and challenges in this new landscape. In order to combine the passion of a social mission with management discipline and entrepreneurial skills and nurture future social entrepreneurs NMIMS since 2007 has introduced One Year Part Time Diploma Programme in Social Entrepreneurship and Three Year Part Time MBA Programme in Social Entrepreneurship.
Objective of the Programme:
• To provide innovative business education to potential and current social entrepreneurs and to connect practitioners, academics and students working in this field.
• To help social sector practitioners and volunteers to incubate new ideas, adopt good business models and spin out new social ventures.
Scope of the Programme:
These programmes are aimed at:
• Executives, Trustees and Board Members of Public & Charitable Trusts, Foundations, Co-operative societies and community based organisations seeking guidance to strengthen an already established organisation.
• Executives, managers, volunteers and social work professionals to upgrade their knowledge and professionalize their skills.
Programme Structure:
The Diploma Programme in Social Entrepreneurship will be completed in 3 trimesters (One Year) covering 12 subjects. There will be project work at the end of the third trimester. Part Time MBA programme will be for nine trimesters (Three Years) covering 37 subjects in all. There will be two seminar papers in the third year. The last trimester focuses on practical and experiential component where students will have to complete 50 hours of internship and a project work. Each trimester consists of 10 weeks.
Teaching Methodology:
Methodology will focus on development of knowledge, skills and attitudes of the participants so that they can successfully manage the responsibility of the tasks, which they handle in the social sector. Emphasis will be laid on participatory learning. The courses take the form of lectures, discussions, case studies as well as academic analysis and framing of the issues. The theoretical and informational inputs will be imparted through classroom lectures. Group discussions will be held to facilitate the participants in exchanging their views, ideas and also their problems and prospects leading to mutual learning. The course includes a range of guest speakers from relevant organizations.
Eligibility Requirement:
Graduation in any discipline.
For Diploma : Minimum one-year work experience in social sector either as staff or as a volunteer.
For MBA: Minimum two years work experience in social sector either as staff or as a volunteer.
Selection Procedure:
Selection to both the programmes will be based on selection test which will comprise of a) Essay Test and b) Personal Interview. The Selection Test will be held at the University Campus on January 11, 2009. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on the website and on the institute notice board on January 23, 2009.

First Year Rs. 21,000/-
Second Year Rs. 31,000/-
Third Year Rs. 36,000/-
Total Rs. 88,000/-
Kindly note that fee has to be paid every year. Loan scholarships and Need-based scholarships are also available for the deserving students.
