Batti Bandh is an entirely voluntary event taking place on the 15th of December between 7:30 & 8:30 p.m. This event is aimed at requesting all of Mumbai to stand up for a cause that is greater than all of us. All you need to do is Switch Off Electricity :lights and appliances in your home, shop, office, school, college or anywhere you are for 1 hour to take a stand against global warming. Just 1 hour.

Global warming. It's here. It's been here for a while. And it's already wreaking havoc.In our homes. In our cities. And we've caused it.
Electricity. Transport. Home waste. Plastic bags and bottles.Factories, industrialization. They called it 'Development'.
According to Al Gore's docu-presentation - An Inconvenient Truth, we've got 8 years till the effects of global warming and the harm we're doing to the world can be reversed. 8 years. That's within our life times.
And You can make a difference.
We all know the answers - save electricity, don't use plastic, walk when you can or then public transport. Use car pools, energy saving bulbs (hey, they're only going to reduce your electricity bill!), don't turn on the tap the whole time you're brushing... You know all this, now ACT upon it.
A few of us in Mumbai are getting together as many people as possible, to spread awareness about global warming.
And we have one goal – Unplug!
On December 15th 2007, we intend getting most of Mumbai to unplug – TV sets, fridges, microwaves. Fans off. Lights out. For one hour, from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
This simple action can cut down on our annual energy production greenhouse gas emission to drastic effect. It's time to take a stand, to defend our planet, our only home. Spread the word.
Wherever you may be – Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata,Chennai,Hyderabad,Pune… and would like to support or join us. And if you start spreading awareness and trying to make a change - however small it may seem - it would go a long way, and the earth would be thankful.
