Government will introduce amendments in the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik said on Monday.
"We are harmonising the legislation and there will be comprehensive amendment in it keeping in mind the needs of the disabled persons with changing times. Currently dialogue is going on with concerned stakeholders on these changes, which we will bring in the next session of Parliament," he said.
Wasnik was speaking on the occasion of the unveiling of the ministry's "fully accessible" website, which was launched by Minister for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Prithviraj Chavan.
The Ministry is the first in the Union Cabinet to have come out with a website which can be fully accessed by persons with physical disabilities.
"Since ours is the nodal ministry looking after welfare of the physically challenged, I would request all my cabinet colleagues to make websites of their respective ministries fully accessible for the physically challenged," Wasnik said.
He said the site will soon be available in Hindi too.
