Your HELP NEEDED IN SAVING 84 TREES!
We invite you with your family & friends to CHALO HAJI ALI, RAKHI BANDHO Vriksh Bachao Andolanon Sunday 11th May at 5.30 pm.
We will gather at Haji Ali seaface,MUMBAI,INDIA 150 meters from Haji Ali Juice Centre towards Worli, start tying colourful Rakhis / Frienship Bands to every tree on the seaface from tree number 1 to 87 and then have a dialogue at the fisherman's jetty.
BMC's Tree Authority has sanctioned removal of 84 trees from Haji Ali seaface in the name of Beautification of Haji Ali Promenade. Beautification of the promenade can be done even without chopping these valuable trees. These are well grown trees on a seaface. It is so difficult to grow trees on a seashore! Beautification can be achieved by taking the existing trees in the new plan and not starting with a blank canvas. Trees have life, they are lifeline to our existence and not mere pawns, to be messed around at our whims!
This will be probably first of its kind of program. We have taken a leaf from Bahuguna's CHIPKO movement.
NGOs, various residents' associations, housing societies, renowned people, political leaders, grass root level workers and other volunteers are supporting the program. With the support of media and well wishers like you, we hope to succeed. Please turn up in large numbers. Do not forget to give your name , telephone no. and email id either on drnilesh.baxi@gmail.com or when we meet.
