A US-based NGO, The Miracle Foundation, is on a mission to adopt as many as 200 orph- ans from the state and pro- vide them with quality education.
Funded by celebrities like Madonna, Shakira and Beyonce Knowles among others, the NGO inaugurated its first orphanage home in Hutar village of Khunti, about 25km from the state capital where the orpha- ns adopted would be look- ed after.
The Miracle Foundation, Hutar has a sprawling cam- pus with 20 beautiful hous- es, a huge soccer ground, garden and a common assembly. The foundation has already adopted 37 orphans.
The NGO, which was founded by Caroline Boudreaux, an American and later joined by Madonna, Shakira, Beyonce Knowles and other celebrities, has six other orphanages around the country.
The orphanage was inaugurated today in the presence of about 2,000 people.
Although Madonna, Sha- kira and Beyonce Knowles were not present on the occasion, Boudreaux and Sandip Soparrkar, a choreographer from Bollywood, attended it.
“The orphans would be raised in an atmosphere of love and care. They would be given the best of education at the centre,” said Jitin Hingorani, the in-charge of the NGO in India.
He said the mission of the foundation is to empower orphans with education and help them reach their potential.
Boudreaux was initially funding the education of some Indian children throu- gh Christian Children’s Fund (CCF) but later beg- an her own organisation with her money after a trip to India and a personal encounter with some orphans over here.
About 200 orphans from the orphanages in Rourk- ela and Bhawani in Orissa assembled at Hutar village to welcome their Jharkhand friends.
“They would have a common assembly where education on human values would be imparted to the children. All the children from every religion wou- ld pray together,” said Hingorani.
The foundation also plans to open more such centres such like the one in Hutar, in future.
Several government officials of the state, apart from guests from the US, gathered at Hutar to witne- ss the inauguration of the centre.
